NFL Week 1 is here, and the betting market is already giving us plenty to work with.
Some teams are attracting overwhelming public action. Others are seeing a much larger percentage of the actual money than the number of bets would suggest. And several Week 1 spreads and totals have moved in the opposite direction of the current betting splits.
That last group is where things get especially interesting.
Below, CLEATZ breaks down the biggest NFL Week 1 line moves, where the money is concentrated, and the games where the movement of the line may be telling a different story than the public betting percentages.
The numbers below reflect the current CLEATZ market snapshot and can continue to change as kickoff approaches.
Where the Money and Lines Are Moving
The biggest Week 1 betting splits, line moves and market disagreements heading into kickoff.
Packers at Vikings
Minnesota crossed through pick’em even though current betting action is leaning toward Green Bay.
Bears at Panthers Over
Fewer than half the tickets are Over, but they account for nearly all of the tracked money.
Cardinals at Chargers Under
Massive Under money, but the total has moved a full point higher.
Cowboys -3 at Giants
Dallas owns one of the most concentrated spread positions anywhere on the Week 1 board.
Biggest NFL Week 1 Line Moves
Opening numbers give bettors important context. A team drawing 80% of the money is interesting. A team drawing 80% of the money while the spread moves two points in the same direction is considerably more interesting.
Here are some of the biggest Week 1 moves CLEATZ is tracking.
| Matchup | Opening Line | Current Line | Move | Market Direction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Packers @ Vikings | MIN +1.5 | MIN -1.5 | 3 pts + favorite flip | Toward Minnesota |
| Browns @ Jaguars | JAX -7 | JAX -8.5 | 1.5 pts | Toward Jacksonville |
| Patriots @ Seahawks | SEA -4.5 | SEA -3.5 | 1 pt | Toward New England |
| 49ers @ Rams | LAR -2.5 | LAR -3.5 | 1 pt | Toward Los Angeles |
| Jets @ Titans | TEN -2.5 | TEN -1.5 | 1 pt | Toward New York |
| Falcons @ Steelers | PIT -2.5 | PIT -3.5 | 1 pt | Toward Pittsburgh |
| Raiders vs. Dolphins | LV -3 | LV -3.5 | 0.5 pt | Toward Las Vegas |
The biggest move belongs to Packers-Vikings.
Minnesota opened as a 1.5-point underdog and is now favored by 1.5, meaning the market has crossed through pick’em and changed favorites entirely.
Here’s where it gets interesting: the current CLEATZ betting splits still show 68% of spread tickets and 69% of spread handle backing Green Bay.
The market made a significant move toward Minnesota, but the current betting action is leaning toward the Packers.
That’s exactly the type of disagreement worth monitoring.
Where the NFL Week 1 Money Is Concentrated
High ticket percentages tell us where the crowd is betting. Handle percentages tell us where the dollars are going.
When the percentage of money is significantly higher than the percentage of bets, it can suggest that the average wager on that side is larger.
| Side | Bets % | Handle % | Difference | Market Read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eagles -4.5 | 69% | 92% | +23 | Large-money favorite |
| Broncos +3 | 73% | 91% | +18 | Tickets + money aligned |
| Jaguars -8.5 | 73% | 90% | +17 | Money + line move aligned |
| Bears -3 | 86% | 89% | +3 | Heavy public consensus |
| Steelers -3.5 | 71% | 87% | +16 | Money + line move aligned |
| Cowboys -3 | 79% | 93% | +14 | One of Week 1’s biggest consensus sides |
| Cardinals +10 | 36% | 62% | +26 | Contrarian money |
Dallas stands out as one of the strongest consensus positions on the Week 1 board. The Cowboys are attracting 79% of spread tickets and 93% of the tracked spread handle at -3.
Philadelphia, Denver and Jacksonville are also receiving extremely heavy money.
But Arizona +10 may be more interesting.
Only 36% of the spread tickets are backing the Cardinals, yet those wagers account for 62% of the handle. That’s a 26-point difference between tickets and money.
Rather than simply asking which team has the highest betting percentage, these are the discrepancies worth looking for.
Keep Following the Week 1 Market
Splits and lines can change quickly as kickoff approaches.
NFL Week 1 Reverse Line Movement to Watch
Some of the most interesting Week 1 markets are the ones where the betting percentages and the line appear to disagree.
| Market | Current Betting Split | Line Movement | Signal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Packers +1.5 | 68% bets / 69% handle | MIN +1.5 → MIN -1.5 | Major move toward MIN despite current GB action |
| Cardinals-Chargers Under 47.5 | 63% bets / 94% handle | 46.5 → 47.5 | Heavy Under money, total moved higher |
| Jets-Titans Under 39.5 | 56% bets / 91% handle | 38.5 → 39.5 | Heavy Under money, total moved higher |
| Patriots-Seahawks Over 44.5 | 54% bets / 78% handle | 45.5 → 44.5 | Over money, total moved lower |
| Titans -1.5 | 53% bets / 64% handle | TEN -2.5 → -1.5 | Spread moved toward Jets |
Cardinals-Chargers Is One to Watch
Cardinals-Chargers may have one of the strangest totals on the Week 1 board.
The Under 47.5 is attracting 63% of the bets and a massive 94% of the tracked handle.
Yet the total hasn’t moved down.
It has moved from 46.5 to 47.5.
That doesn’t automatically mean the Over is the correct side. It does mean the relationship between the betting splits and the market deserves attention.
Jets-Titans Shows a Similar Conflict
The Under 39.5 is attracting 56% of tickets and 91% of the money.
But the total opened at 38.5 and has moved higher to 39.5.
Again, the money and movement aren’t telling the same story.
Patriots-Seahawks Goes the Other Direction
In New England-Seattle, 78% of the tracked total handle is currently backing Over 44.5.
The total, however, has fallen from an opening 45.5.
These aren’t automatic contrarian bets. They are market signals worth monitoring as limits increase and kickoff gets closer.
NFL Week 1 Totals: Where the Bigger Money Is Going
The spread market isn’t the only place showing major discrepancies between bets and dollars.
Several Week 1 totals have dramatically more money on one side than the ticket count would suggest.
| Matchup | Side | Bets % | Handle % | Difference | Open → Current |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bears @ Panthers | Over 47.5 | 43% | 92% | +49 | 45.5 → 47.5 |
| Packers @ Vikings | Under 46.5 | 44% | 87% | +43 | — |
| Falcons @ Steelers | Under 42.5 | 56% | 94% | +38 | — |
| Jets @ Titans | Under 39.5 | 56% | 91% | +35 | 38.5 → 39.5 |
| Cardinals @ Chargers | Under 47.5 | 63% | 94% | +31 | 46.5 → 47.5 |
| Commanders @ Eagles | Under 44.5 | 55% | 85% | +30 | 47 → 44.5 |
| 49ers @ Rams | Under 48.5 | 61% | 85% | +24 | — |
| Patriots @ Seahawks | Over 44.5 | 54% | 78% | +24 | 45.5 → 44.5 |
Bears-Panthers Over Is the Cleanest Signal
Only 43% of the current bets are on Over 47.5 in Bears-Panthers.
Those wagers, however, account for 92% of the tracked money.
That’s a 49-point gap between ticket percentage and handle percentage.
The market has also moved in the same direction, climbing from 45.5 to 47.5.
Unlike some of the reverse-movement examples above, the money and the line are telling the same story here.
Injury News Can Move NFL Lines Too
Betting action isn’t the only thing capable of moving an NFL spread.
Injuries, quarterback news, weather, roster changes and other information can hit the market quickly.
Atlanta quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has moved from Questionable to Out on the CLEATZ NFL Injury Report, while Pittsburgh has moved from roughly -3 to -3.5.
That doesn’t prove the injury caused the spread move. Multiple pieces of information can influence a line at the same time.
It does illustrate why bettors should check current injury information before assuming that every betting-line move is being driven purely by wagers.
Five NFL Week 1 Markets We’re Watching
Packers at Vikings
Opening line: Minnesota +1.5
Current line: Minnesota -1.5
Current Green Bay action: 68% bets / 69% handle
This is the most important pure line-movement game on the Week 1 board.
Minnesota didn’t simply move from +1.5 to pick’em. The Vikings crossed through zero and became the favorite.
Current betting percentages leaning toward Green Bay make the move even more interesting.
Browns at Jaguars
Opening line: Jacksonville -7
Current line: Jacksonville -8.5
Jacksonville action: 73% bets / 90% handle
This is a much cleaner market.
The public likes Jacksonville. The money likes Jacksonville even more. And the spread has moved 1.5 points toward the Jaguars.
Tickets, dollars and line movement are all pointing in the same direction.
Bears at Panthers
Current total: 47.5
Over tickets: 43%
Over handle: 92%
This may be the strongest tickets-versus-money discrepancy among the Week 1 totals.
The Over is attracting fewer than half of all wagers but nearly all of the money, while the total has climbed from 45.5 to 47.5.
Cardinals at Chargers
Current total: 47.5
Under tickets: 63%
Under handle: 94%
This is the opposite type of setup.
Almost all of the money is on the Under, yet the total has risen rather than fallen.
That makes Cardinals-Chargers one of the most interesting reverse-market signals to monitor.
Falcons at Steelers
Pittsburgh has moved from approximately -2.5 to -3.5 while also attracting 87% of the current spread handle.
At the same time, Atlanta has an important quarterback injury situation to monitor.
This is a good example of why line movement, public betting and injury information are more useful when viewed together rather than independently.
How to Read NFL Betting Splits and Line Movement
Three numbers can tell you a lot about what is happening in an NFL betting market.
Bets percentage shows the percentage of individual wagers placed on each side.
Handle percentage shows the percentage of the actual money wagered on each side.
Line movement shows how the sportsbook market has adjusted the price since opening.
A large gap between bets and handle can indicate that one side is attracting larger average wagers.
But handle percentages alone don’t identify professional bettors, and line movement isn’t always caused by betting action. Injuries, weather, limits, market-making sportsbooks and new information can all affect the number.
That’s why CLEATZ tracks these signals together.
The most interesting situations tend to be when:
- Handle percentage is substantially higher than ticket percentage.
- The line moves strongly in the same direction as the money.
- The line moves against heavily concentrated betting action.
- A spread crosses through key numbers or changes favorites.
- Injury or roster news appears around the same time as significant movement.
No single indicator guarantees where the line goes next. The goal is to understand what the market is doing rather than simply following the most popular side.
Track NFL Week 1 Betting Markets Live
NFL Week 1 betting percentages can change quickly as kickoff approaches and betting limits increase.
Use the CLEATZ NFL tools to track the latest movement:
NFL Public Betting: Bets and handle percentages for spreads, moneylines and totals.
NFL Odds Movers: Opening odds compared with current NFL spreads and totals.
NFL Injury Report: Player-status changes alongside relevant line movement.
NFL Lines: Current odds for the complete NFL Week 1 board.
The key isn’t simply knowing where everyone is betting.
It’s knowing where the money is going, how the line is reacting, and when those two signals disagree.
