College football Week 1 is here, and the betting market has already made some very loud moves.
Forget simply asking which teams have the most bets. The more interesting question is where the money is moving — and whether the sportsbooks are moving with it.
There are already several major Week 1 signals on the CLEATZ board: Buffalo has dropped six full points from its opener, Temple and West Virginia have been steamed upward, Louisville is attracting dramatically more spread money than Ole Miss, and multiple totals have enormous gaps between ticket count and dollars wagered.
Below are the Week 1 moves worth watching.
Four Moves That Jump Off the Board
The fastest way to see where the Week 1 market has shifted before diving into the full slate.
Biggest Week 1 Movers
Opening numbers versus the current market, with the direction of the move spelled out.
Where the Dollars Disagree With the Tickets
These are the largest gaps between bet percentage and handle percentage — a quick way to spot markets where average wager size looks very different.
Where Tickets, Dollars and the Line Agree
Not every interesting signal is contrarian. These favorites have broad support and meaningful market movement.
SMU -3
at Florida State
The public, the money and the market are all leaning toward SMU.
West Virginia -21
vs. Coastal Carolina
Heavy support on both tickets and dollars has helped move WVU 3.5 points.
Temple -14.5
vs. Rhode Island
Temple has been pushed four points from the opener and still has overwhelming handle support.

| Game | Open | Current | Move | What Stands Out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Albany @ Buffalo | BUF -24.5 | BUF -18.5 | 6 pts | 82% handle on Albany +18.5 |
| Lafayette @ UConn total | 58.5 | 52.5 | 6 pts ↓ | 100% current handle Under |
| Rhode Island @ Temple | TEM -10.5 | TEM -14.5 | 4 pts | 92% handle Temple |
| Coastal Carolina @ WVU | WVU -17.5 | WVU -21 | 3.5 pts | 96% handle WVU |
| Miami @ Stanford | STAN +21.5 | STAN +24.5 | 3 pts | Price moving toward Miami |
| UCLA @ California | CAL -1.5 | CAL +1.5 | 3 pts / favorite flip | 83% spread handle UCLA |
The biggest move on the entire board belongs to Albany-Buffalo.
Buffalo opened as a massive -24.5 favorite. That number has collapsed all the way to -18.5.
And the current betting split explains why this matchup deserves attention.
Buffalo still has 69% of spread tickets, but only 18% of the spread money. Albany has just 31% of tickets while controlling 82% of the handle.
That is a 51-point bets-to-handle gap on Albany +18.5.
This isn’t proof that professional bettors are responsible for the move, but it is exactly the type of combination bettors should be looking for: bigger average wagers appearing on the underdog while the market simultaneously moves six points toward that side.
Where the Bigger Bets Are Landing
| Side | Bets % | Handle % | Gap | Read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 46.5 — Toledo/MSU | 26% | 96% | +70 | Monster bigger-bet signal |
| Under 51.5 — EIU/Minnesota | 28% | 92% | +64 | Public likes Over; money doesn’t |
| Albany +18.5 | 31% | 82% | +51 | Matches 6-point line move |
| Lafayette +19.5 | 11% | 62% | +51 | Huge favorite/public disagreement |
| Fresno State +22.5 | 27% | 70% | +43 | USC getting tickets, Fresno dollars |
| Louisville +6.5 | 49% | 86% | +37 | Major handle flip against Ole Miss |
| Under 55.5 — Louisville/Ole Miss | 40% | 90% | +50 | Large Under wagers |
Louisville Money Has Flipped the Ole Miss Market
Louisville-Ole Miss might be the most interesting major-conference split on the Week 1 board.
Ole Miss currently has a slight majority of the spread tickets at 51%.
But only 14% of the spread handle is backing the Rebels.
Louisville +6.5 has the other 86% of the money despite only 49% of tickets.
Even more interesting: Ole Miss once controlled 98% of the spread handle. That number has collapsed to 14%.
The total shows another disagreement. Sixty percent of bettors are taking Over 55.5, but only 10% of the money is there. The Under has 40% of tickets and a massive 90% of handle.
That’s two different markets in the same game showing substantially larger average wagers on the Louisville/Under side.
Everybody Likes the Minnesota Over. The Money Does Not.
Eastern Illinois-Minnesota has one of the strangest totals splits of Week 1.
72% of tickets are on Over 51.5.
Only 8% of the money agrees.
The Under has just 28% of bets but 92% of the handle — a massive 64-point difference.
The change over time is even more dramatic. The Over opened with 83% of the handle. It now has just 8%.
That is the type of market reversal worth watching as kickoff approaches.
Michigan State-Toledo Has an Even Bigger Total Split
Michigan State -9.5 is one of the most heavily backed spreads of Week 1, with 94% of spread money on the Spartans.
But the total tells the opposite story.
The public is heavily betting Over 46.5, accounting for 74% of tickets.
The dollars are overwhelmingly going Under.
Under 46.5:
26% of bets
96% of handle
That’s a 70-percentage-point gap between tickets and money — one of the largest on the Week 1 board.
The Public’s Favorite Week 1 Sides
| Market | #1 | Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Spread | SMU -3 at Florida State | 97% |
| Spread | West Virginia -21 | 96% |
| Spread | Michigan State -9.5 | 94% |
| Total | Merrimack/Delaware Over 58.5 | 97% |
| Total | Kent State/South Carolina Over 54.5 | 97% |
| Total | Toledo/MSU Under 46.5 | 96% |
| ML | Boston College +245 | 97% |
| ML | Kent State +5000 | 96% |
| ML | Michigan -6500 | 96% |
No spread has attracted more money than SMU -3 at Florida State.
SMU currently owns 90% of spread tickets and 97% of spread handle.
And this is not just a betting-split story.
Florida State moved from +2.5 to +3, while its moneyline moved from +120 to +136. Prediction markets also make SMU roughly a 59%–61% favorite.
When the tickets, dollars, sportsbook line and prediction markets are all leaning in the same direction, that is a very different setup from a simple public-money pile-on.
West Virginia Has Been Steamed
West Virginia opened -17.5 against Coastal Carolina.
The Mountaineers are now -21.
They also have 80% of spread bets and 96% of spread handle.
Unlike several games on this board where tickets and money strongly disagree, this is a case where both are pushing the same direction — and the market has responded with a 3.5-point move.
Temple Has Moved Four Points
Temple opened -10.5 against Rhode Island and is now sitting at -14.5.
Current spread splits remain heavily tilted toward Temple:
Temple -14.5
74% bets
92% handle
Moving four points through several intermediate numbers is meaningful. Bettors jumping in now are paying a substantially different price than anyone who grabbed Temple near the opener.
One Market Flip to Watch: UCLA-Cal
California opened as a small favorite against UCLA. It isn’t anymore.
Cal opened around -1.5 and is now +1.5, making UCLA the favorite.
The current spread market is heavily tilted toward UCLA, with 88% of tickets and 83% of handle backing the Bruins.
The moneyline is even stronger: UCLA has 95% of the handle.
Prediction markets aren’t nearly as aggressive, though, putting UCLA’s win probability around 53%–54%.
That disagreement between sportsbook action and prediction-market pricing makes this one worth watching through Saturday night.
Week 1 Isn’t Just About Who Has 90% of the Bets
The most useful betting splits are often the ones where the two percentages don’t match.
A team with 80% of bets and 82% of the money tells us something very different from a team with 30% of bets and 85% of the money.
Then add line movement.
When the larger-dollar side also lines up with a meaningful market move, the signal becomes considerably more interesting.
CLEATZ will continue tracking every Week 1 spread, total, moneyline, ticket percentage, handle percentage and prediction-market probability as the board changes.
