Every number on this page is generated from live data at page load — nothing is hand-written per game. Here is exactly how it is produced.
Where the data comes from
Schedule, venue, status and starting lineups come from the MLB Stats API. Hourly forecasts (temperature, chance of rain, wind speed, wind direction, humidity) come from WeatherAPI.com, pulled per ballpark by coordinates. Moneylines and totals come from SportsGameOdds. The full board rebuilds every 30 minutes.
Matching weather to first pitch
Rather than showing a daily high, CLEATZ selects the hourly reading closest to each game's scheduled first pitch, so a 1:05 PM start and a 7:10 PM start at the same park report different conditions. The hourly table on each card shows the surrounding hours, with the game-time column highlighted.
Wind, translated into baseball
A compass reading like "SSW 9 mph" says nothing on its own — it depends which way the park faces. CLEATZ stores the true bearing from home plate to center field for all 30 stadiums, converts the forecast's "wind from" direction into "wind toward," and resolves it into two components: the part blowing out toward center, and the crosswind across the field. That is what produces the Blowing Out / Blowing In / Crosswind verdict.
The HR Rating
The rating is a percentage shift in home-run conditions relative to a 70°F, dead-calm baseline at that same park. The out-blowing wind component is the dominant term; temperature adds a smaller adjustment, because warmer, less dense air lets a ball carry farther and cold air suppresses it. The crosswind component splits the result into left- and right-handed hitter figures, since a crosswind that helps balls toward one foul pole works against the other.
Park Factor is kept separate
The Park Factor shown on each card is a multi-year (2023–26) run and home-run index for that stadium. It is displayed next to the HR Rating rather than blended into it, so you can see how much of a spot is the ballpark itself and how much is today's weather. Domed and closed-roof parks are flagged and excluded from all weather modelling.
Limitations, stated plainly
The HR Rating is a directional conditions estimate, not a projection of how many home runs will be hit, and it is not calibrated against batted-ball outcomes. Humidity and air pressure are displayed but are not inputs. Rain-delay and postponement risk are derived from forecast rain probability, not from MLB or club announcements. Forecasts change; treat everything here as of its timestamp.

Why MLB Weather Matters for Betting and DFS
Most Major League ballparks are open to the sky. CLEATZ models 22 of the 30 as weather-affected and flags the fixed- and retractable-roof venues separately because a closed roof takes weather out of the equation entirely. For the outdoor parks, weather is less symmetrical than it is in football: every stadium faces a different direction, so an identical wind reading can help hitters at one park and hurt them at another. That asymmetry is what the totals and home run markets have to price every day of the 162-game season.
Wind Direction and the Over/Under
Wind is the single most actionable weather variable in MLB betting. When a strong wind is blowing out toward center or left-center field, fly balls carry further, warning-track outs become home runs, and run totals climb. The physics are not in dispute: a sustained wind blowing out toward the outfield adds carry to fly balls and lifts the run environment, and a wind blowing in from center knocks those same balls down. What is in dispute is how much of that is already in the number. Sportsbooks move totals on wind, sometimes aggressively, so a game is rarely mispriced simply for being windy. The edge, where there is one, comes from disagreeing with the size of the adjustment — which is why CLEATZ resolves wind against each park’s true field orientation instead of showing a raw compass reading, and keeps the HR Rating separate from the multi-year park factor. Temperature and Run Scoring
Warm air is less dense than cold air, which means the ball travels farther. Cold-weather games score less than warm-weather games. The league-wide gap is real but modest, a fraction of a run per game, and it widens at the extremes in both directions. Treat it as a background condition that nudges a total rather than an angle on its own. Early-season games in April and May at northern stadiums like Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, and Comerica Park are where this factor is most exploitable, since you can have 45°F conditions in Chicago while teams in Houston and Atlanta are playing in 75°F weather, a massive spread in expected run environments on the same slate.
Humidity and Ball Flight
High humidity reduces air density, which, counterintuitively, helps the ball travel farther. It’s a smaller effect than temperature or wind, but it becomes relevant in close spots, like when you’re deciding between two similarly priced HR props and one game is at 85°F with 80% humidity in Cincinnati while the other is at 65°F and dry in San Francisco.
Rain and Postponement Risk
Postponements are the one weather outcome that can wipe out a DFS lineup, but handling varies: some sites pull the affected game from the slate before lock, some cancel or adjust contests, and late-swap rules differ by platform and contest type. Know your site’s postponement policy before you need it. As a working rule, a game CLEATZ flags at Moderate delay risk or higher is worth a pivot if you have a high-ownership pitcher in it. How to Use the CLEATZ MLB Weather Dashboard
The dashboard is designed for speed. Here’s how to get from the forecast to a decision in under two minutes:
1. Check the Summary Bar First
The four tiles at the top tell you at a glance how many outdoor games are on the slate, how many domes have no weather impact, and whether any games have elevated rain risk. If the Rain Delay Risk tile shows anything above zero, those games are your immediate focus; figure out whether you have exposure to them before anything else.
2. Read the Wind Compass
Each outdoor game card has a wind compass showing exactly which direction the wind is blowing relative to that stadium. The arrow points in the direction the wind is traveling. A compass arrow pointing toward center field means wind is blowing out, favoring hitters, consider the over. An arrow pointing toward home plate means wind is blowing in favor of pitchers, lean under.
3. Check Game-Time Temperature
The headline temperature on each card is the game-time forecast, not the current temperature. For afternoon games in spring, this matters; a 1:05 PM first pitch in Detroit might be 44°F at game time, even if it feels milder in the morning. Sub-50°F games significantly suppress offense and are where pitchers earn their DFS salary.
4. Scan the Hourly Breakdown
The hourly table runs from three hours before first pitch through three hours after — seven columns covering batting practice through the likely final out. The game-time column is highlighted in green. If the precipitation climbs from 5% at first pitch to 35% by the seventh inning, that game is worth monitoring for in-play betting or a late DFS swap.
5. Set Aside the Roofed Venues
Fixed-dome and retractable-roof parks get a distinct dimmed card with no forecast attached, because a closed roof removes weather from the equation. Retractable venues are the one place to stay alert: CLEATZ treats them as closed, which holds almost all of the time, but the actual weather impact depends on the roof position the club announces on the day. For everything else, focus your weather research on the outdoor games.
Which MLB Stadiums Are Most Weather Sensitive
Not all outdoor stadiums respond to the weather the same way. Elevation, orientation, proximity to water, and local climate create very different weather environments across the league’s 20-plus outdoor parks.
High-Impact Weather Stadiums
Wrigley Field (Chicago Cubs) – The most weather-volatile park in baseball. Situated on the North Side of Chicago with no significant windbreaks, Wrigley is notorious for dramatic wind shifts. Wind blowing out to left at 15+ mph is one of the strongest over indicators in all of sports betting. Wind blowing in from Lake Michigan has the opposite effect. Nationals Park (Washington D.C.), Camden Yards (Baltimore), Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia), and Great American Ball Park (Cincinnati) all sit in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest weather belt. They see meaningful weather variance from April through October, but it is less extreme than the Great Lakes parks. Having attended multiple World Series games in Philly, I can attest to the impact wind can have in Citizens Bank Park.
Low Weather Impact (Outdoor)
Dodger Stadium and Petco Park play in Southern California markets where temperatures are mild and in-season precipitation risk is low. They still warrant a compass check, but they rarely carry the postponement risk of the northern parks — the MLB park factors tell you most of the rest of the story at these venues.
Oracle Park (San Francisco Giants) belongs a tier higher than its mild climate suggests. The marine layer and the bay winds off McCovey Cove make it one of the more wind-sensitive parks in the league even on a dry night, which is why its multi-year park factor sits well on the pitcher’s side.
Roofed Venues
loanDepot park, American Family Field, Rogers Centre, Chase Field, Daikin Park (formerly Minute Maid Park), Globe Life Field, T-Mobile Park and Tropicana Field have fixed or retractable roofs.
