NFL Week 1 is still weeks away, but the betting market is already doing what it does best: overreacting, piling in, and leaving a few neon signs for anyone willing to follow the money.
The early Week 1 board on CLEATZ is loaded with public sides, extreme totals action, and a few beautiful “tickets vs. handle” splits that scream that someone with real money has already taken a position.
Let’s start with the obvious public darlings.
- The Raiders are seeing a full-send move on the spread against the Dolphins, with Las Vegas -3 pulling 100% of the spread handle.
- The Bills are not far behind, drawing 99% of the spread handle at -1.5 against the Texans.
- The Eagles are also getting blasted, with Philadelphia -5.5 taking 98% of the spread handle against Washington.
That is not just casual Week 1 interest. That is the market showing its hand early.
The totals board is even louder.
- Saints-Lions Over 48.5 is sitting at 100% of bets and 100% of the handle.
- Browns-Jaguars Under 40.5 is also at 100%/100%.
- Bills-Texans Under 45.5? Same story.
- Ravens-Colts Under 49.5? Also 100% across the board.
The moneyline market has its own chalk parade. The Chargers are the biggest public-backed ML side, with LA -600 against Arizona pulling 99% of the handle. Detroit is right behind, with the Lions -325 against the Saints attracting 97% of the moneyline handle. But the most interesting ML split might be Patriots +164 at Seattle, where New England is taking 90% of the moneyline handle despite being an underdog.
That is the kind of split that makes the board worth watching.
A Few Week 1 Spots That Jump Off The Page:
① Patriots at Seahawks
Seattle is favored in the Week 1 Super Bowl rematch, but the money is not exactly acting scared of New England. The Patriots +3.5 are taking 79% of the spread handle, and Patriots +164 is pulling 90% of the moneyline handle. Meanwhile, the Over 44.5 has moved from 10% to 90% of the handle since open.
② 49ers at Rams
The Rams are taking 76% of the spread handle as 3-point favorites, but the total is the headline. Over 48.5 is taking 99% of the handle despite only 40% of tickets. That is a classic “fewer bets, bigger money” profile.
③ Bills at Texans
Buffalo -1.5 is getting hammered with 90% of tickets and 99% of the spread handle. The total is just as lopsided, with Under 45.5 sitting at 100% of bets and 100% of the handle. The market is basically saying: Bills side, lower-scoring game.
④ Falcons at Steelers
This one has split personality energy. The public is on Pittsburgh, but the handle is showing Atlanta interest. Steelers -3 have 71% of bets but only 39% of the handle, while Falcons +3 are taking 61% of the spread handle. Falcons +142 is also pulling 64% of the moneyline handle. Somebody is not buying the Steelers chalk.
⑤ Broncos at Chiefs
The spread tickets are dead even, but the money is not. Denver +2.5 is taking 92% of the spread handle against Kansas City. Chiefs moneyline is still getting more tickets, but Denver +124 is pulling 68% of the ML handle. That is a very loud underdog split for a Monday night opener.
The early Week 1 story is simple. The public is already piling into favorites like the Raiders, Bills, Eagles, Packers, Cowboys, Chargers, and Lions, but the sharper-looking handle pockets are showing up on underdogs like the Patriots, Falcons, Broncos, and Giants.
The NFL is back, and the board is already messy. That is exactly how we like it.
