College Football Week 3 doesn’t have the eight-point favorite flip that dominated last week’s board, but the market is giving us something arguably more useful: huge disagreements between where the tickets are going and where the actual money is landing.
Several totals have gaps of more than 60 percentage points between bets and handle. Underdogs in a few Saturday games are taking a minority of the tickets but a majority of the money. And a handful of spreads and totals have already moved two to three points from their opening numbers.
Weather deserves attention, too. Wind could become a real factor in Fort Collins and Lubbock, while Miami-Wake Forest currently carries a significant rain threat.
Below, we’re tracking the biggest Week 3 line moves, where the money is concentrated, the largest bets-versus-handle disagreements and the markets worth monitoring through kickoff.
Updated: Wednesday, September 16, 2026
Lines, betting percentages and forecasts can change quickly as limits increase and kickoff approaches. CLEATZ currently has betting splits on 50 Week 3 games, 116 games on the lines board and weather data for 74 games.
Four Markets Telling the Week 3 Story
Line movement, money gaps and weather conditions worth monitoring before kickoff.
Akron at Minnesota
A full three-point move toward Akron since the opening number.
Virginia-WVU Under 53.5
A 73-point gap between ticket share and actual money.
LSU -3 at Ole Miss
Public support and money are both concentrated on LSU.
BYU at Colorado State
Wind, altitude and a two-point spread move make this one worth monitoring.
Biggest College Football Week 3 Line Moves
The Week 3 board isn’t seeing one massive repricing. Instead, several games have moved between two and three points — enough to materially change the number a bettor is being asked to play.
| Matchup | Opening | Current | Move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Akron @ Minnesota | Minnesota -26.5 | Minnesota -23.5 | 3 pts toward Akron |
| Kent State @ Ohio State | Total 56.5 | 59.5 | 3 pts Over |
| Colorado @ Northwestern | Total 45.5 | 48.5 | 3 pts Over |
| Miami @ Wake Forest | Miami -22.5 | -20.5 | 2 pts toward Wake |
| Houston @ Texas Tech | Texas Tech -9.5 | -7.5 | 2 pts toward Houston |
| Buffalo @ Penn State | Penn State -38.5 | -40.5 | 2 pts toward Penn State |
| Florida State @ Alabama | Alabama -17.5 | -19.5 | 2 pts toward Alabama |
| Florida State @ Alabama | Total 50.5 | 48.5 | 2 pts Under |
| Mississippi State @ South Carolina | South Carolina -5.5 | -4 | 1.5 pts toward Mississippi State |
| Mississippi State @ South Carolina | Total 56.5 | 58.5 | 2 pts Over |
The biggest spread move on the main CLEATZ lines board is Akron-Minnesota. Minnesota opened around -26.5 and has fallen to approximately -23.5 — a full field goal toward Akron.
Houston-Texas Tech is another important move. The Red Raiders have shortened from roughly -9.5 to -7.5, while Florida State-Alabama has moved in the opposite direction, from Alabama -17.5 to -19.5.
Where the Week 3 Money Is Concentrated
The highest handle percentages aren’t necessarily the most interesting bets, but they tell us where the largest share of tracked dollars is currently landing.
| Side | Current Line | Spread Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Appalachian State | -17.5 vs. Charlotte | 97% |
| Cincinnati | -14.5 vs. Miami (OH) | 97% |
| Fresno State | -6.5 at San Jose State | 97% |
| Georgia State | +18.5 at UCF | 97% |
| Western Michigan | -9.5 at Rice | 97% |
| Wyoming | +1.5 at Central Michigan | 97% |
| Georgia | -24.5 at Arkansas | 95% |
| Miami | -20.5 at Wake Forest | 93% |
| Buffalo | +40.5 at Penn State | 92% |
| Mississippi State | +4 at South Carolina | 92% |
That list alone shows why blindly equating “lots of money” with favorites doesn’t work. Georgia and Cincinnati are drawing enormous handle as favorites, while Georgia State, Wyoming, Buffalo and Mississippi State are doing the same as underdogs.
The more revealing numbers come when the money percentage and ticket percentage sharply disagree.
Biggest Week 3 Bets vs. Money Disagreements
Ticket percentage tells us how many bets have been placed on a side.
Handle percentage tells us how much of the money is there.
A large difference doesn’t identify who placed those wagers, but it does tell us that the average wager on one side is significantly larger.
And Week 3 has some enormous gaps.
| Market | Bets | Handle | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virginia-WVU Under 53.5 | 9% | 82% | +73 |
| UTEP-Michigan Under 49.5 | 25% | 92% | +67 |
| Utah State-Utah Under 56.5 | 25% | 92% | +67 |
| Arkansas State +19.5 at TCU | 17% | 75% | +58 |
| Coastal Carolina +4.5 at Delaware | 18% | 72% | +54 |
| James Madison +2.5 at San Diego State | 40% | 89% | +49 |
| Michigan State +29.5 at Notre Dame | 29% | 75% | +46 |
| Colorado State +17.5 vs. BYU | 26% | 72% | +46 |
Those are the numbers I’d build the Week 3 report around.
Virginia-West Virginia Under is hard to ignore
Only 9% of tracked total tickets are currently on Under 53.5.
Those wagers represent 82% of the handle.
That is a 73-percentage-point difference between tickets and money — one of the largest on the entire Week 3 board.
UTEP-Michigan has two separate disagreements
Michigan -35.5 currently owns 80% of the spread tickets, but only 42% of the spread money.
UTEP +35.5 has just 20% of tickets but 58% of handle.
The total is even more extreme: Under 49.5 has just 25% of bets but 92% of the money.
That’s the kind of game where simply looking at the public percentage misses most of the story.
Arkansas State-TCU: One of the Cleanest Week 3 Market Signals
Arkansas State +19.5 is currently getting only 17% of spread tickets but 75% of spread handle.
And unlike some money gaps, the line has moved in the same direction.
TCU opened around -20.5 and has shortened to -19.5.
That gives us three pieces of information pointing in the same direction:
- Most spread tickets are on TCU.
- Most spread money is on Arkansas State.
- The market has moved toward Arkansas State.
The total has another notable split: Under 56.5 accounts for 67% of tickets but 100% of the tracked handle in the current snapshot.
This is one of the markets I’d keep near the top of the Saturday watchlist.
BYU-Colorado State Has Money, Movement and Weather
This game has multiple things happening at once.
BYU opened around -19.5 and is currently approximately -17.5.
But Colorado State +17.5 is receiving just 26% of spread bets while accounting for 72% of spread handle.
The market has therefore moved two points toward the same side attracting the larger average wagers.
Then add the weather.
Canvas Stadium currently has sustained winds around 18 mph, with gusts reaching approximately 28 mph around kickoff. The game is also being played at roughly 5,000 feet of elevation.
That doesn’t make Colorado State or the Under an automatic play. It does make this one of the more layered Week 3 markets.
Follow the Board Through Kickoff
LSU-Ole Miss: The Marquee Week 3 Market
LSU-Ole Miss gives us something we didn’t have much of last week: a major game where the public and the money are mostly telling the same story.
LSU -3 currently has:
- 73% of spread tickets
- 90% of spread handle
The Over 58.5 is seeing similar concentration:
- 75% of total tickets
- 91% of total handle
Prediction markets are much less lopsided on the outright winner, currently placing LSU around 58%-60% depending on the venue.
So the sportsbook spread market is showing stronger confidence in LSU than the outright-win markets.
The question heading into kickoff is whether LSU stays around the key number of -3 or whether enough action arrives to push the market through it.
Florida State-Alabama: Money and Movement Agree
Alabama is another market where the line and the current money are moving together.
The Crimson Tide opened around -17.5 and have moved to roughly -19.5.
Current betting splits show approximately 55% of spread tickets but 75% of spread handle on Alabama.
At the same time, the total has fallen from approximately 50.5 to 48.5.
The weather isn’t driving an obvious Under setup: Tuscaloosa is currently forecast to be extremely hot but relatively calm, with game-time conditions feeling around 104 degrees.
That makes the downward total move worth watching independently of the weather.
CFB Week 3 Weather Watch
Twenty games are currently flagged on the CLEATZ Weather Watch for wind or precipitation concerns.
| Game | Weather Concern | Current Market Angle |
|---|---|---|
| BYU @ Colorado State | 18 mph wind, gusts 28 | BYU -19.5 → -17.5 |
| Houston @ Texas Tech | 17 mph wind, gusts 26 | TTU -9.5 → -7.5 |
| Miami @ Wake Forest | 75% rain at kickoff; 87% next hour | Miami -22.5 → -20.5 |
| Florida State @ Alabama | Extreme heat; feels ~104° | Alabama -17.5 → -19.5 |
Houston-Texas Tech deserves special attention
Lubbock currently has one of the strongest wind forecasts of the week, with sustained wind around 17 mph and gusts around 26 mph.
But the total has actually risen from an opening 51.5 into the 53.5 range on the weather board.
And the betting public isn’t scared of the Over: the current split has roughly 90% of tickets and 99% of handle on Over 53.5.
That’s an interesting collision:
Higher total + overwhelming Over money + potentially significant wind.
Definitely worth checking again Friday afternoon.
Miami-Wake Forest is the rain game
The forecast currently shows a 75% rain chance around kickoff, rising to approximately 87% in the following hour.
Meanwhile, Miami has moved from roughly -22.5 to -20.5.
Again, weather does not prove the cause of the line move. But this is exactly why the weather and odds boards belong next to one another.
Five CFB Week 3 Markets We’re Watching Through Kickoff
1. Arkansas State at TCU
The cleanest tickets-versus-money spread disagreement.
TCU owns 83% of the bets.
Arkansas State owns 75% of the money.
And the number has shortened toward the underdog.
2. LSU at Ole Miss
This is the marquee market.
LSU has 73% of the spread tickets and 90% of the spread handle at -3, while the Over is also attracting heavy money.
The key thing to monitor now is whether the spread crosses through 3.
3. UTEP at Michigan
The public is overwhelmingly laying the huge number with Michigan.
The money is much more interested in UTEP, while Under 49.5 has one of the largest tickets-versus-money gaps on the entire board.
4. BYU at Colorado State
Colorado State is taking only 26% of spread bets but 72% of the money.
The line has moved toward the Rams.
And wind could become a legitimate variable.
5. Houston at Texas Tech
Houston has moved from around +9.5/+10 to +7.5.
The game also carries one of Week 3’s strongest wind forecasts, while bettors continue hammering the Over.
That combination makes Friday night’s market especially interesting.
