Boston has the crowd. Philadelphia has the upset interest.
Three games, three different betting stories: Heavy Celtics support, an underdog drawing money in New York, and an under attracting larger average wagers in San Antonio.
Monday-night preview · October 19, 2026
Win-price quotes: 11:19–11:25 p.m. ET. Tables are static snapshots.
Boston is the most popular spread side among Tuesday’s three opening-night games. Philadelphia is the underdog attracting majority support, while the late game’s total deserves a closer look. The useful question is what those preferences tell us about the market—and what they leave unanswered.
Use this report to organize your research, then check the NBA public betting splits before placing a wager. The numbers below describe the tracked sample, not every bettor or sportsbook.

*Gap = money share minus ticket share, in percentage points. Lines belong to the split snapshot and may differ from current book quotes. Bets and dollars are measured separately within each market.
Celtics at Pistons: Boston dominates the sample
The afternoon opener has the strongest concentration of support in this three-game slate. Boston leads the spread and moneyline markets, while the over has the largest positive money-versus-ticket gap among the selections shown.
That is agreement on direction, not a disagreement between small and large bettors. The over has a majority of both tickets and dollars; its larger dollar share tells us the average over wager is bigger than the average under wager within the sample.
The key distinction: Popularity is not a win probability. A highly concentrated ticket count can coexist with a close game price. It does not make Boston a lock, and it does not automatically make Detroit a value bet.
What to watch: Compare the current spread and total with the numbers attached to these splits. If the price changes, a new wager is being evaluated at different terms from at least some of the recorded action. The NBA lines comparison helps identify that difference.
76ers at Knicks: The public is taking the points
Philadelphia’s support extends beyond the spread. The 76ers also receive a majority of moneyline tickets and dollars, making this opening night’s clearest underdog-interest story.
Covering and winning remain separate outcomes. A four-point Philadelphia loss would cover +4.5 but lose an outright-win position. Readers who like the underdog should decide which result their analysis supports before comparing payouts.
The moneyline gap suggests larger average Philadelphia wagers within this market. It does not establish that professionals are betting the upset, nor does it reveal the entry prices those customers received.
What to watch: Availability and rotation news can change both the matchup and the price. Review the NBA injury tracker and confirmed lineups before translating a public-betting preference into a position.
Thunder at Spurs: The total deserves the closer look
San Antonio has a modest spread majority with matching ticket and dollar shares. The more distinctive signal is the under: Its money share runs well ahead of its ticket share.
Oklahoma City’s moneyline attracts fewer tickets but half the dollars. That is a different pattern from Philadelphia’s majority support. Calling both a rush toward underdogs would flatten an important distinction.
What to watch: Follow the total alongside the NBA odds movement board. A falling total would change the price available to new under bettors. A steady total would still need interpretation; percentages alone do not show how much money it would take to move the market.
Prediction markets: Compare the same outcome
| Team | Novig* | Kalshi | Polymarket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boston | 52.6¢ | 53¢ | 52¢ |
| New York | 62.5¢ | 63¢ | 62¢ |
| San Antonio | 53.9¢ | 54¢ | 54¢ |

A share of wagers and a contract price answer different questions. The first describes participation in a sample; the second describes the displayed cost of exposure to an outcome. Compare outright-win prices with other outright-win prices, rather than interpreting spread tickets as a forecast of who wins.

Before tip-off: Check the inputs behind the story
This is a public-betting report, not a list of picks. Final game-day availability is not confirmed in this Monday-night preview. Check the latest official availability report and team announcements, especially before using the NBA player props board to research individual workloads.
Then revisit three things: Whether the selected side still attracts the same share of action, whether its line has moved, and whether the payout remains attractive to you. A strong crowd preference does not replace matchup analysis.
