Favorites have company. Overs have a crowd.

The Week 6 betting public is approaching the slate with plenty of opinions. Favorites lead the spread-ticket rankings, several home teams command heavily concentrated money, and overs feature prominently among the most popular totals.
There are exceptions worth investigating, too. An underdog can attract a large share of dollars without becoming the favorite to win. A total can draw most of its wagers on one side and most of its money on the other.
Our NFL public betting tracker helps separate those stories. Here is how to read this week’s action without confusing popularity with probability.
Spread betting: The crowd starts with favorites
| Tracked selection | Bets | Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Jaguars -3 vs. Texans | 74% | 46% |
| Patriots -7.5 vs. Jets | 74% | 88% |
| Seahawks -2.5 at Broncos | 70% | 61% |
| Colts -7 vs. Titans | 69% | 95% |
| Bills -5.5 at Raiders | 67% | 52% |
| 49ers -7.5 vs. Commanders | 63% | 93% |
Six leading spread selections by ticket share, with their corresponding handle. Bets = tickets; handle = dollars within each tracked market. Lines are snapshot labels, not guaranteed executable quotes.
The table shows why “the public likes the favorite” is only the beginning of the analysis. Some selections attract both a broad following and an even larger share of money. Others are much more popular by ticket count than by dollars.
A percentage also cannot tell us the total size of the market. A higher share in one matchup does not establish that it contains more money than a lower share in another.
For bettors, the immediate task is to price the margin. A seven-point victory pushes -7 and loses -7.5. Before joining a crowded favorite, check the NFL lines comparison and decide whether the number still supports your case.
Money concentration: Indianapolis and San Francisco stand out
The Colts and 49ers are especially clear examples of handle running well ahead of ticket share in the table above. That indicates larger average wagers on those sides within the sample; it does not identify professional bettors.
My research priority for a heavily backed favorite is to test what could prevent separation. Can the opponent sustain drives? Does the favorite need touchdowns where field goals would be insufficient? Could a late score erase the cover after the outcome looks settled?
Those are more useful questions than automatically following—or fading—a popular team. Compare the market with the NFL picks tool, then review the assumptions behind your own forecast.
Underdogs: Atlanta leads the exceptions
| Tracked selection | Bets | Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Falcons +3 vs. Bears | 57% | 85% |
| Texans +3 at Jaguars | 26% | 54% |
These are different kinds of support: Atlanta has a majority of tickets as well as dollars, while Houston’s money share exceeds its much smaller ticket share. Neither situation makes the underdog an automatic play.
The number is particularly important in Atlanta. During this research, the separate odds comparison listed the Falcons at +2.5 while the splits board retained +3. A three-point defeat has a different result for those two tickets.
Use the NFL odds movers to investigate price changes. Check the first-recorded date before calling an opening-to-current change a move that happened this week.
Totals: Overs are popular, but the under has a notable backer base
| Tracked total | Handle |
|---|---|
| Saints–Giants over 45.5 | 97% |
| Bears–Falcons over 49.5 | 97% |
| Bills–Raiders over 53.5 | 96% |
| Chargers–Chiefs under 42.5 | 96% |
Selected concentrated totals. Percentages describe separate markets and do not measure total dollars across games.
The Chargers–Chiefs split deserves particular attention: the under has just 43% of tickets. Most wagers favor the over, while the dollars overwhelmingly favor the opposite outcome.
That is a reason to investigate the matchup, not evidence of a guaranteed low-scoring game. An under case still needs to account for short fields, defensive scores and late possessions. An over case needs enough drives and efficient finishing to reach the threshold.
Check the NFL weather report for outdoor games and the injury report for availability. If your argument depends on a passing-heavy script, compare the passing props and receiving props. If it depends on clock control, examine the rushing markets.
Moneylines: Winning and covering are separate assignments
Las Vegas illustrates another split: the Raiders have 12% of moneyline tickets but 50% of handle. A small share of wagers can represent a substantial share of dollars.
But moneyline action cannot be substituted for spread analysis. A bettor taking points can win while the team loses. A bettor backing an outright upset cannot. Likewise, a favorite can justify confidence in the result while leaving considerable uncertainty about the margin.
Before switching to the larger payout, identify exactly what you expect the final score to do. A more exciting return does not strengthen the underlying argument.
Prediction markets: Compare the price of the win
| Team to win | Novig | Kalshi | Polymarket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seattle | 57% | 56% | 56% |
Rounded market-implied probabilities displayed on the CLEATZ lines tool. These are reference figures, not executable asks or CLEATZ forecasts. Confirm the applicable product, fees and available size.
For a hypothetical contract purchased at 56 cents that pays $1 on a win, the profit is 44 cents before fees. The purchase price implies a 56% break-even probability before costs. Whether that is attractive depends on your estimate, not on how many people agree with the selection.
The same shopping principle applies to conventional odds. The lines comparison displayed Kansas City moneyline at -388 on Novig and -500 on DraftKings. Those quotes imply break-even rates of approximately 79.5% and 83.3%, respectively, before additional costs. They back the same winner but demand different accuracy from the bettor.
Our Novig promo code guide and Kalshi promo code guide cover current offer requirements. The Polymarket promo code guide explains its offer and product details. Compare features through the prediction-market apps guide, and evaluate the game price separately from any welcome incentive.
The Week 6 approach: Follow the action, then test the ticket
- Spread: Decide how much margin your team needs and set a price limit.
- Total: Build a scoring case around possessions and efficiency.
- Moneyline: Separate confidence in a winner from confidence in a cover.
- Trading: Check the actual ask, fees and depth; check the bid if you plan to exit early.
A popular selection can be reasonably priced, overpriced or worth passing on. So can an unpopular one. Use the CLEATZ NFL hub to keep the matchup research, market data and available prices together as kickoff approaches.
