New England Has the Crowd. Chicago Has the Favorite’s Price.
Patriots at Bears • Thursday, October 22, 2026 • 8:15 p.m. ET
Soldier Field • Prime Video
The Patriots are the popular underdog on Thursday Night Football. The harder question is whether the price still rewards that opinion.
Chicago sits around a field-goal favorite, putting bettors at a familiar decision point: take New England with the full three, pay extra to get the Bears below that number, or skip the spread and trade the outright result. Those choices carry different risks, even when they express the same view of the game.
Our starting point is the CLEATZ NFL odds board, paired with public betting splits. The matchup adds another layer: New England’s protection is unsettled, and the final injury picture could matter more than the size of the crowd behind either team.

Public Betting: New England Is the Popular Side
| Selection | Bets | Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Patriots +3 | 74% | 59% |
| Bears -3 | 26% | 41% |
| Over 50.5 | 49% | 54% |
| Under 50.5 | 51% | 46% |
| Patriots moneyline | 84% | 88% |
| Bears moneyline | 16% | 12% |
Chicago’s spread handle exceeds its ticket share by 15 percentage points. That suggests larger average wagers on the Bears within this sample, but New England still owns the majority of spread dollars. Calling this “all the money on Chicago” would misread the board.
The outright market is more lopsided toward the Patriots. The total is much closer to balanced. These are tracked betting samples, not a census of every wager or proof of professional action.
The Spread: Three Changes the Outcome
A three-point Bears victory pushes New England +3 and Chicago -3. It loses for Patriots +2.5 and wins for Bears -2.5. That is why the extra half-point deserves attention.
It also has a price. Chicago -2.5 at -125 asks you to risk $125 to win $100, compared with $102 at -3. Paying that premium only makes sense if your assessment of the three-point result supports it. Likewise, a plus-money Patriots +2.5 offer cannot be compared with +3 by looking at the payout alone.
The feed’s opening baseline shows Chicago moving from -1.5 to -3, with the total rising from 46.5 to 50.5. That baseline is not necessarily this week’s opener. It does not establish when the adjustment happened or who caused it. Follow the NFL odds movers for the latest displayed changes.
Injuries: Protection Is the Patriots’ Biggest Question
The official Tuesday practice report listed Ben Brown and Alijah Vera-Tucker as nonparticipants. Morgan Moses and A.J. Brown were limited. Drake Maye was a full participant despite his right-shoulder listing.
For Chicago, T.J. Edwards, Kyle Monangai and Jack Sanborn were estimated nonparticipants in a walkthrough; Jonah Jackson was limited. Those practice designations are not final game statuses.
For bettors, the offensive-line combination matters as much as any single name. An unsettled unit can change protection calls, route depth and how quickly the quarterback must release the ball. Check the updated injury report and final inactives before committing to a passing or rushing prop.
The Matchup: Early Downs Could Decide This One
Patriots.com’s matchup analysis identifies an opening for New England: Chicago has allowed explosive passes and struggled against play-action, even while its third-down defense has been effective. Montez Sweat’s suspension also removes a prominent pass rusher.
That gives Maye a route to keeping this close. My read is that New England needs productive first and second downs to avoid repeatedly asking a reshuffled line to survive obvious passing situations. The underdog case weakens if drives become a procession of third-and-long snaps.
Chicago can attack from the other direction. Ben Johnson’s offense uses the run and play-action to sustain possessions. Long Bears drives would reduce New England’s opportunities and make a few failed Patriots possessions particularly costly. That is the strongest objection to taking the points.
Total and Props: Be Careful Chasing the Adjustment
The weather snapshot shows roughly 61 degrees, light wind and a low rain chance. There is no obvious weather reason to default to an under; revisit the NFL weather report closer to kickoff.
I’m passing on the total at the current number. A higher threshold gives an under bettor more room, but a previous lower line alone does not make the new one overpriced. Explosive completions and short fields remain threats to an under, while stalled possessions can undo an over even in friendly weather.
For props, start with the final lineup and then compare the exact threshold and price. A receiving-yard over can benefit from concentrated targets but suffer if protection forces shorter throws. A running-back over can benefit from a lead yet lose volume to a changing rotation. Use the passing, rushing and receiving prop boards to test the game script you actually expect.
CLEATZ Pick: Patriots +3 at -112 or Better
Editorial lean: New England with the full field goal. The attraction is Maye’s opportunity to attack Chicago on early downs while retaining push protection on a three-point loss.
Price limit: +3 at -112 or a less expensive price. I would not automatically carry this pick over to +2.5, and I would pass rather than pay more juice at +3. This is a matchup judgment, not a quantified model edge.
What could change it: A worse final protection outlook, a setback for Maye or a meaningful limitation for A.J. Brown. Confirm the lineup before placing the wager. No second bet is necessary just to fill out a TNF card.
For Traders: Compare the Price You Can Actually Buy
The displayed win probabilities favor Chicago at roughly 59–60% across Kalshi, Novig and Polymarket. Those figures describe market pricing, not a guarantee or a substitute for your own forecast.
A displayed probability may differ from an executable offer. Check the bid-ask spread, available size, fees and settlement terms before comparing it with sportsbook odds. A one-point difference can disappear once trading costs enter the calculation.
If you’re comparing platforms, the Novig promo code guide, Kalshi promo code guide and Polymarket promo code guide explain current offers and eligibility. Evaluate the underlying price first; a promotion should support a decision you already understand.
Before Kickoff: Refresh the Lineup and the Number
The Patriots’ popularity is the headline. Their ability to protect Maye is the football question. Keep both in view, and make sure the bet you place still matches the price you intended to take.
