College Football Week 5 has turned into a study in market disagreement.
Some of the biggest wagers on Saturday’s board are landing on Unders, even as public bettors continue piling into Overs. Several spreads have moved dramatically from their opening numbers. And in a few games, the direction of the line doesn’t seem to agree with where the current money is sitting.
BYU-TCU has lost five full points from its opening total. Texas State has moved five points against San Diego State. Old Dominion-Georgia State has changed favorites. And the total in Oregon State-Colorado State has surged six points despite one of the strongest wind forecasts on the slate.
Below, we’re combining the latest college football betting splits, CFB lines and movement and college football weather to identify the Week 5 markets worth following into kickoff.
Four Markets Telling the Week 5 Story
Updated Friday afternoon with the latest betting splits, line movement and weather.
BYU at TCU
Five points have disappeared while larger wagers remain concentrated on the Under.
Michigan State-Wisconsin Under
An 82-point gap between ticket share and money share on Under 43.5.
Washington at USC Total
The current money says Under even though the market has moved five points higher.
Oregon State at Colorado State
Strong wind remains in the forecast, but the total and betting money keep moving higher.
Biggest College Football Week 5 Line Moves
The top of the Week 5 movement board hasn’t changed much, but the numbers are becoming more meaningful as kickoff approaches.
| Matchup | Opening | Current | Move |
|---|---|---|---|
| BYU @ TCU | Total 52.5 | 47.5 | 5 pts Under |
| Texas State @ San Diego State | Texas State -3.5 | -8.5 | 5 pts toward Texas State |
| Old Dominion @ Georgia State | ODU -1.5 | ODU +2.5 | 4 pts + favorite flip |
| Pittsburgh @ Virginia Tech | Virginia Tech -6 | -2.5 | 3.5 pts toward Pittsburgh |
| Louisville @ NC State | Louisville -6.5 | -3.5 | 3 pts toward NC State |
| Wyoming @ North Dakota State | NDSU -20.5 | -17.5 | 3 pts toward Wyoming |
| Penn State @ Northwestern | Penn State -4.5 | -2.5 | 2 pts toward Northwestern |
| Notre Dame @ North Carolina | Notre Dame -23.5 | -21.5 | 2 pts toward UNC |
| Marshall @ James Madison | JMU -17.5 | -19.5 | 2 pts toward JMU |
| Purdue @ Illinois | Total 60.5 | 62.5 | 2 pts Over |
Two moves remain well ahead of the pack.
BYU-TCU has gone from 52.5 to 47.5, while Texas State has steamed from -3.5 to -8.5.
Old Dominion-Georgia State may be more interesting conceptually because the market didn’t merely adjust a spread — it crossed through zero and changed favorites.
Week 5 Spread Handle Leaders
The current money leaders have shifted since our first look at the board.
| Side | Current Spread | Handle |
|---|---|---|
| James Madison | -17.5 vs. Marshall | 97% |
| North Dakota State | -16.5 vs. Wyoming | 97% |
| South Alabama | -14 vs. ULM | 97% |
| USC | -8.5 vs. Washington | 93% |
| Central Michigan | -6.5 vs. Akron | 92% |
| Georgia | -25.5 vs. Vanderbilt | 92% |
| UMass | -5.5 vs. Eastern Michigan | 92% |
| Michigan State | +9.5 at Wisconsin | 90% |
| San Jose State | +3 at Hawaii | 90% |
| Houston | -11.5 vs. UCF | 89% |
The Michigan State number jumps off the page.
The Spartans are one of the only underdogs near the very top of the handle leaderboard — and the ticket count tells an even more interesting story.
Notable Week 5 Bets vs. Money Gaps
A big handle percentage doesn’t automatically tell us much.
The better question is whether the share of dollars is dramatically different from the share of bets.
These are some of the biggest disagreements still on the board Friday afternoon:
| Market | Bets | Handle | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Michigan State-Wisconsin Under 43.5 | 14% | 96% | +82 |
| USC-Washington Under 58.5 | 13% | 89% | +76 |
| California-UNLV Under 53.5 | 13% | 86% | +73 |
| BYU-TCU Under 47.5 | 15% | 86% | +71 |
| Charlotte-Memphis Under 52.5 | 33% | 99% | +66 |
| Miami-Clemson Under 47.5 | 16% | 79% | +63 |
| ULM-South Alabama Over 57.5 | 43% | 97% | +54 |
| Auburn-Tennessee Under 53.5 | 16% | 67% | +51 |
| Michigan State +9.5 | 45% | 90% | +45 |
| Ohio State-Iowa Under 45.5 | 11% | 50% | +39 |
There is still a very obvious Week 5 theme:
The biggest disagreements are concentrated on totals — especially Unders.
That doesn’t prove who is making the wagers.
It tells us the average wager size on one side is significantly larger than the other.
The next step is comparing that split with what the actual number has done.
Michigan St. vs. Wisconsin Is Still the Wildest Split on the Board
The numbers have shifted since our first look, but the basic story has become even cleaner.
Michigan State +9.5
Michigan State now has:
45% of spread tickets
90% of spread handle
Wisconsin has more bets, but only 10% of the spread money.
That’s a 45-point handle-minus-ticket gap on Michigan State.
Under 43.5
The total is even more extreme.
Over 43.5:
86% bets / 4% handle
Under 43.5:
14% bets / 96% handle
That’s an 82-point money gap on the Under.
Prediction markets still price Wisconsin around 76%-77% to win outright, so this isn’t necessarily a market calling for an upset.
The disagreement is about the number.

Alabama vs. Miss. St. : The Dog Still Has the Bigger Spread Money
The spread has tightened slightly, with Alabama now around -5.5.
The current ticket split favors Alabama:
Alabama -5.5: 55% bets / 27% handle
Mississippi State +5.5: 45% bets / 73% handle
That’s a 28-point positive handle gap on Mississippi State.
The moneyline disagreement is even larger.
Only 16% of outright-win tickets are on Mississippi State, but those wagers account for 69% of moneyline handle.
Prediction markets remain remarkably consistent, pricing Alabama around 66% to win.
So again, this isn’t really an argument about which team should be favored.
It’s about the price.

BYU vs. TCU: Money and Movement Still Agree on the Under
This remains one of the cleanest total signals of the week.
BYU -6.5 continues to attract most of the spread action:
88% of spread tickets
81% of spread handle
But the total is almost completely inverted.
Over 47.5:
85% bets / 14% handle
Under 47.5:
15% bets / 86% handle
And the total has moved:
52.5 → 47.5
That matters.
There are plenty of games where the money split looks dramatic but the market barely reacts.
Here, larger Under wagers and a five-point move are pointing in the same direction.

Miami vs. Clemson Has Become More Interesting
Miami is still getting most of the spread tickets.
At -16.5, the Hurricanes currently have:
76% of bets
61% of handle
But Clemson has moved from +18.5 to +16.5 since opening.
So even though Miami remains the public side, the spread has moved two points toward Clemson.
The total has an even larger disagreement:
Over 47.5: 84% bets / 21% handle
Under 47.5: 16% bets / 79% handle
And the total itself has fallen from approximately 51.5 to 47.5.
That’s a four-point move in the same direction as the larger Under wagers.
The weather now adds another layer: rain chances increase as the night progresses in Clemson.
Prediction markets put Miami around 85%-86% to win. Readers comparing those exchange probabilities can also see the updated Polymarket welcome-offer guide, including the current October promotion.
USC vs. Washington Is a Much Stranger Total
USC -8.5 is straightforward.
The Trojans currently have:
92% of spread tickets
93% of spread handle
Public and money agree.
The total does not.
Over 58.5:
88% bets / 11% handle
Under 58.5:
13% bets / 89% handle
That’s a 76-point gap on the Under.
But here’s what makes the game fascinating:
The total opened around 53.5.
It’s now 58.5.
So while the current larger wagers are overwhelmingly on the Under, the broader market has moved five points higher from its opener.
Add a forecast that includes gusts around 21 mph, and this becomes one of the clearest examples of why a betting split can’t be analyzed by itself.
The current money says Under.
The move since open says Over.
Those signals disagree.
Ohio St. vs. Iowa Has Changed Since Our First Look
This one is important to update.
Earlier in the week, the Under had a much larger handle advantage.
That gap has narrowed significantly.
Ohio State -14 now has:
57% of spread bets
84% of spread handle
That’s a stronger spread-money signal than the total.
Under 45.5 currently has only 11% of tickets, but the handle has fallen to 50%.
That is still a meaningful difference in average wager size — but it isn’t remotely as extreme as the 70%+ Under-handle numbers we saw earlier.
This is exactly why these reports need to be updated close to kickoff.
CFB Week 5 Weather Watch
Weather is becoming more relevant as Saturday approaches.
| Game | Current Forecast | Market Movement |
|---|---|---|
| Oregon State @ Colorado State | Winds around 19 mph; gusts near 30 | Total 56.5 → 62.5 |
| Maryland @ Nebraska | Around 17 mph; gusts near 23 | Nebraska -12.5 → -14.5 |
| ULM @ South Alabama | ~89%-92% rain | Total 54.5 → 57.5 |
| Miami @ Clemson | Rain probability rises during game | Total 51.5 → 47.5 |
| McNeese @ LSU | Rain + gusts near 25 mph | LSU -48.5 → -52.5 |
Oregon St. vs. Colorado St.: The Over Keeps Winning the Argument
This remains the week’s strangest weather-versus-market setup.
Canvas Stadium is forecast to have winds around 19 mph in the hours leading into kickoff, with gusts around 30 mph.
Normally, that would immediately put a football total under scrutiny.
Instead:
Opening total: 56.5
Current total: 62.5
And the betting split has become even more extreme:
Over 62.5: 80% of tickets / 100% of handle
This isn’t a case where a few large bets are fighting the public anymore.
The current tickets, the current money and the six-point movement in the total are all pointing toward more scoring — despite the wind.
That’s an unusual setup.
ULM vs. South Alabama: Rain vs. Over Money
The South Alabama forecast remains ugly.
Rain probability is around 89%-92% during much of the game, with high humidity and some wind.
But the market is not treating it like a traditional bad-weather Under.
The total has moved:
54.5 → 57.5
And Over 57.5 now has:
43% of tickets
97% of handle
That’s a 54-point gap toward the Over.
The current spread is similarly one-sided, with South Alabama -14 holding 97% of the spread handle.
Weather says wet.
Money and market movement still say points.
Five CFB Week 5 Markets We’re Watching Through Kickoff
1. Michigan State at Wisconsin
Michigan State +9.5 is now attracting 90% of spread handle despite only 45% of tickets, while Under 43.5 owns 96% of the money on just 14% of wagers.
2. BYU at TCU
The total has dropped five points from 52.5 to 47.5, with only 15% of tickets but 86% of money on the Under.
3. Miami at Clemson
Miami still owns most of the spread tickets, but the line has moved two points toward Clemson. Under 47.5 has 79% of handle and the total has fallen four points from its opener.
4. USC vs. Washington
The current Under money is overwhelming, but the total has moved five points in the opposite direction from 53.5 to 58.5.
5. Oregon State at Colorado State
Wind gusts remain near 30 mph, yet the total has surged six points and the Over currently owns 100% of tracked handle.
What to Watch Saturday
Friday afternoon has already shown why these numbers should be treated as a live market rather than a static handicapping sheet.
Ohio State-Iowa’s total split has cooled.
Michigan State money has strengthened.
Miami-Clemson’s Under signal has strengthened.
Oregon State-Colorado State has turned from a big-money Over angle into almost complete consensus.
The useful question isn’t:
Which side has 90% of the money?
It’s:
What did the number do after that money arrived?
That’s the distinction between simply reading betting percentages and actually reading the market.
